An Efficient Scheme for Compressed-Domain Image Mirroring

چکیده

Conventional processing of compressed image or video data involves first decompressing the data and applying the desired processing function, and then the processed data are recompressed for the purposes of transmission or storage. We propose an efficient scheme which involves direct manipulation of compressed domain representation to achieve the desired spatial domain processing. For direct manipulation in the compressed domain, we propose a discrete cosine transform (DCT)-domain data mirroring scheme in this paper. To mirror a data sequence is to put the sequence in inverse order. This approach leads to an efficient compressed domain-based image mirroring method (actually multiplication-free method) unlike its spatial domain counterpart. This method can be used in image and video editing where image and video data are available only as a JPEG or MPEG bitstream. This method is applied to images for rotation by 90, 180, and 270. We illustrate these methods in video editing application.
